Youth Orchestra
Adam Yu
Adam Yu is a 15-year-old sophomore at Clayton High School and is thrilled for his second season with the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He began playing the piano at age 5 but fell in love with the violin in fourth grade through his elementary school’s string program and now studies with Joo Kim of the SLSO.
Yu is currently a member of the Clayton High School Symphonic Orchestra. He was previously part of Webster University Community Music School’s (CMS) String Orchestra and Young People’s Concert and Symphonic Orchestras (YPCO, YPSO). He served as co-concertmaster of YPCO during the 2023–2024 season and participated in YPSO’s debut performance at Carnegie Hall in April 2025. Yu was also a member of the 2026 Missouri All-State Orchestra.
In the summer of 2024, Yu attended the Interlochen Music Festival. In Summer 2026, he attended the Meadowmount School of Music, where he studied with I-Hao Lee, and participated in the CREDO Festival. In the 2025-2026 season, Yu was a member of the CMS Preparatory Program, and his ensemble, the Hermosa Quartet, was a quarter finalist at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
Outside of violin, Yu enjoys playing volleyball for his school team, writing for the school newspaper, participating in speech and debate, and spending time with his family and dog. He would like to thank Joo Kim, Xiaoxiao Qiang, Daniel Henderson, Vera Parkin, Rebecca Pantano, I-Hao Lee, and everyone else who has supported and encouraged him throughout his musical journey.
