Andrew Fei

John Burroughs School

Andrew Fei is a rising 9th grader at John Burroughs School. He is very excited to join the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for his first season. Fei started playing the violin at the age of four, learning with the Suzuki program of the Community Music School of Webster University. He has been a student of Rebecca Chung since age nine.

Fei has enjoyed playing in many orchestras at CMS, such as String Ensemble, YPCO and YPSO. He was the co-concertmaster of his middle school orchestra. He is a member of the St. Louis Metropolitan Orchestra’s Sharing-the-Stand program. He has participated in masterclasses with Julia Sakharova and Andrea Jarrett. Fei was a winner of the 2025 Missouri Federation of Music Clubs District IV-Virtuoso Club Camp Scholarship. He has attended Credo St. Louis for three consecutive years. In the summer of 2024, he participated in the Credo National Festival in Chicago.

Besides playing the violin, Fei enjoys composing music. Fei participated in the CMS Summer Composition Intensive Camp for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023, under the guidance of John Thomas. Fei also studied music theory from David Hamilton. Fei enjoys reading and playing video games during his free time.

Fei is grateful to his current teacher Rebecca Chung for her help and support. Fei also thanks his previous teachers Marilyn Park-Ellington and David Liu, his mentors Joseph Kaminsky and Vera Parkin, his orchestra directors, and his parents for all their support throughout his musical journey.
