Youth Orchestra
Gergo Szilagyi
Gergo Szilagyi is a cellist who is starting his first year in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. He is a 15-year-old sophomore at Ladue Horton Watkins High School and has played cello since the age of 5. Szilagyi has participated in the Young People’s Concert Orchestra at the Community Music School of Webster University and has also been a member of the Missouri All-State Orchestra. He took part in the Preparatory Program of CMS and attended various music camps over the summer such as Credo St. Louis and the International Cello Institute in Northfeld MN.
Szilagyi is happy to be part of the Chamber Academy of St. Louis, in which he performs with the Interstate String Quartet. He is also part of Ladue’s Strolling Strings, a student orchestral club that gives community performances around St. Louis. Szilagyi studies under Kurt Baldwin, the cellist of the Arianna String Quartet and professor at the University of Missouri St. Louis.
Szilagyi notes his experience at the International Cello Institute 2025 (ICI) greatly helped him develop as a cellist and a person. At ICI, he participated in masterclasses and lessons with renowned cellists like Steven Doane, Deborah Pae, Brannon Cho, and members of the Colorado String Quartet. Szilagyi would like to thank everyone who supports his musical journey, especially his family and Prof. Kurt Baldwin, and he feels so grateful and honored to have so many opportunities to play music.
Outside of music, Szilagyi likes participating in outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and kayaking. He enjoys most racket sports such as tennis, badminton, racquetball, ping pong to name some, and likes spending time with his friends and family.
Szilagyi is thrilled to be part of the 2025-2026 Season of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra!
