Ian Chung

Parkway West High School

Ian Chung is a 15-year-old violinist in the 10th grade at Parkway West High School. This is his first year participating in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra (YO), and he is very excited for the opportunity to be a part of the YO along with many other talented musicians.

In 2024 alone, Chung participated in the Community Music School (CMS) Preparatory Program alongside other musicians practicing and performing chamber music. He earned an honorable mention in the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA) state competition in the 7th through 9th grade division, and he was selected to be in the Missouri All-State Orchestra.

Chung currently studies with Pavel Ilyashov and is incredibly thankful for his dedication, passion, and hours of instruction and encouragement. Chung would also like to express his sincere gratitude to Sunghee Hinners, who taught him how to play piano and taught him music theory. He is also thankful for Rebecca Pantano, the former director of the Parkway West Middle School orchestras, who encouraged and supported his musical development, as well as Ed Sandheinrich, the director of the Parkway West High School Orchestras.
