Youth Orchestra

Yuhan Liu

Clayton High School

Yuhan (Anna) Liu is a freshman at Clayton High School. This is her first year participating in the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Liu initially started playing violin at age 8 and recently switched to viola. Liu wanted to switch to viola just a year ago when she saw how it captured the beauty of a violin, but with a deeper and richer sound. She began her journey into viola with Chris Tantillo and is currently studying with Joanna Mendoza.

She loves being involved with musical organizations in school as well, being the President Elect of her schools’ Tri-M chapter for a year before becoming the President of Wydown Tri-M. She also participated in the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra when they performed in Carnegie Hall, New York. Outside of music, Liu is active in Scouting America in Troop 21G. She loves playing tennis and reading when she’s not practicing.

Liu would like to thank all of her mentors, teachers, and supporters who have guided her musical journey: Carolyn Day, Daniel Henderson, Joanna Mendoza, Alexey Shabalin, Angie Smart, and, of course, her family.
