Youth Orchestra

Claire Zhou

Marquette High School

Claire Zhou is a sophomore at Marquette High School and is thrilled to be joining the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for her first season. She began playing the piano at the age of 6, which remained her main instrument for many years. In third grade, she was introduced to the violin through her school orchestra program. At 12, Zhou fully switched to the violin and has since been studying under the guidance of Joo Kim.

Before joining the YO, Zhou was an active member of her school orchestra and participated in the Community Music School of Webster University’s programs. She served as principal of the Young People’s Concert Orchestra and later played with the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra. In 2024, she was honored to perform with the Missouri All-State Orchestra.

Outside of music, Zhou enjoys playing tennis, reading, traveling, and spending time with friends. She is deeply grateful to Joo Kim for her inspiring mentorship and to her brother, parents, teachers, and past orchestra conductors for their unwavering support.
