Youth Orchestra
Estelle Zhang
Estelle Zhang is a 13-year-old violinist and pianist from St. Louis, Missouri, and an eighth grader at John Burroughs School. She is excited to join the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra for the first time as a violinist. Zhang began studying both violin and piano at the age of four and has been studying violin with Xiaoxiao Qiang of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. She is also self-taught on the viola and cello. Zhang is a devoted member of the Community Music School of Webster University, where she participates in the Preparatory Program. She has served as a first violinist in both the Young People’s Concert Orchestra (YPCO) and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra (YPSO), and in 2025, she appeared as a piano soloist and violinist with YPSO at Carnegie Hall.
Each summer, Zhang attends Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan, where she has performed in the Intermediate Symphony Orchestra (violin), Intermediate String Chamber (viola and violin), and piano programs, earning merit scholarships each year. At school, she plays viola and cello in the John Burroughs School Orchestra and values the collaborative experience of ensemble playing. Zhang has received state winners from the Missouri Music Teachers Association since 2021.
She has performed works by Mozart, Beethoven, Lalo, Saint-Saëns, Chopin, Liszt, and Dvořák, and has participated in masterclasses with artists from the SLSO, Interlochen, Northwestern University, and the Manhattan School of Music. Outside of music, Zhang enjoys ballet, drawing and matcha. She hopes to use her love of music to connect with and uplift others.
