Youth Orchestra

Lucas Cheng

Mary Institute and Country Day School

Lucas Cheng began his cello journey at the age of five, under the tutelage of Sandy Keifer at the Suzuki Academy in Hong Kong. Born and raised in Hong Kong, he was an active member of the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra from 2016 to 2022, participating in numerous concerts, flash mobs, and public performances. His dedication to music culminated in winning 1st prize in the cello solo competition at the Hong Kong School Music Festival in 2019.

In 2023, Cheng moved to St. Louis, where he is now a rising junior at Mary Institute and Country Day School (MICDS) and a new member of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra. Currently, Cheng studies cello under the guidance of Ken Kulosa, further honing his skills and passion for the instrument. He is also a member of the “Cellostoppers,” a cello chamber ensemble group founded by him and his friends in Hong Kong.

Outside of music, Cheng enjoys playing basketball, traveling, and spending quality time with family and friends. Cheng is excited to continue his journey in music while embracing new opportunities in St. Louis.
