Jean Park
Jean (Julie) Park is a 14-year-old freshman at Marquette High School. She started playing piano at the age of 5 and switched to violin when she was 8 years old. She has studied under Pavel Ilyashov for the past 3 years. This is her first season as a member of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra.
Julie has participated in various orchestras. These include: her school orchestra, the Young People’s Concert Orchestra (YPCO) and the Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra (YPSO) of the Community Music School of Webster University. In 2023-2024, she was concertmaster of YPSO. She has also joined the Preparatory program of CMS in 2023-2024.
In 2022, she was runner-up and in 2023 she was the winner in the Strings 7th-9th grade division in the Missouri Music Teachers Association (MMTA) Competition. She was also selected as a Radar Young Artist of Chamber Music Society St. Louis (CMSSL) in 2023-2024.
Julie loves writing and has been a member of the yearbook production since 7th grade. Additionally, she likes playing with her dog, hanging out with friends, and listening to music.
Julie would like to give a special thanks to Pavel Ilyashov, and Bailey Salinero who have helped her grow and learn. She is also thankful for Eve Flowers, Michael Blackwood, Patrick Jackson, Laura Holzen, and her parents for always supporting her. Most of all, she is very grateful for God, and she believes none of her accomplishments could have happened without him.
